Did you also trash the localthumbcache file after removing the CC? You absolutely must do that each time you remove CC. Did you try it in a clean save too?
You added a batch of CC and the game broke after adding it, therefore the CC is at fault.
Again, there is no limit, some users have thousands of CC items installed without issue, so long as the CC is compatible with the current patch level and doesn't cause any confliction with other CC.
Moving this thread to General Discussion so others who use 3rd party content can offer their advice. This is not a Mac specific tech. issue.

Hello I’m having this same problem currently due to the new update so now I’m going back in and adding the cc I truly want and trashing the old stuff that i downloaded but I have wayyyy too much cc and a high end pc that can handle it but I think the cc just isn’t compatible which I have no problem with letting it go just gonna be a bit time consuming
