Sims always "at work" or "at school" even when at home

Apparently this problem should be fixed but it isn't for me! Their icons are gray and I can't even access my inventory because the Sim is "not home", is there any way to fix this? The only way I found is to go to manage worlds and come back, but it's getting frustrating having to do that every time.
