Solved

Sims won't interact with objects; CC works individually, but not all together.

Currently having an issue where my sims won't interact with any objects. Every time I try to get them to do anything, they stick their arms out to the side and then do nothing. Actions either queue and don't work, or don't queue at all. They previously weren't interacting with each other, but that stopped after I tried the solution in this post.

This started when I installed some new CC and my game wouldn't start up at all. Did the 50% method, but there was no issue with the CC individually, only all together. So I assumed there was a conflict with some of the new CC, and just deleted all the CC I downloaded that day. So now there's no new CC in my game; but the game still isn't working. Tried the 50% method again, and the same issue - the CC works individually, but all together, it causes an issue. Except these are the same mods that were working the day before. There's nothing new in my game because I deleted all the new stuff I had downloaded.

I've tried sims.hard_reset. I've tried evicting my sims, moving them into another lot, and then moving them back into their original one (This solved them not interacting with each other, but they still won't interact with objects). I've restarted my computer, I've repaired my game using origin, but to no avail.

I'm using Windows 7, my game is updated to the latest patch. Thank you!

  • Wanted to post an update to this as I have finally found the issue!!! (I have only had the time to sit down with it recently)

Somehow, there actually was a conflict with some of the mods/cc that I had had installed for years. I used the Mod Conflict Detector by DmitryMalfatto on Mod The Sims (no idea how I missed this before, since I had looked for broken mod detectors many times in the past), deleted the mods that it said were conflicting with some others (Ikea curtains and some eyeshadow, of all things), and my Sims will now interact with each other as well as objects. Yay! I'm so excited to finally play this game again after months of being without it!

  • @yellowsunglasses I use very little cc/mods. I'm guessing you have (had) two cc/mods that were in conflict. This conflict may still be in a cache file or the save game image itself. You have to remove all the cc - then clear the caches (there are several how tos of which cache files can be deleted and how to find bad cc). And if that doesn't work you may have to back your save game a lot. Then start re adding your cc.

BTW bumping is against the rules of the forums.

  • @roberta591 Sadly this didn't work. I'm headed out of town soon, so I think I'm going to leave this for a while so I can get ready. (Both situations have proven to be quite time consuming, haha)

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

I used the mod detector app and literally nothing is working. I have the exact same problem except the solution isn’t working for me.
