The Sims 4 2023 Gameplay Glitches

I have a issue that has been accuring every single sim second.... My sims are all obsessed with rummaging through the trash, no trash pile and no collecting, their just digging through the trash every sim second. Only way to stop them is to reset them but then they go right back to it. The sims I'm referring to, do not have any traits that can cause this issue. The action does not show up in their Queue, wants or needs. They absolutely refuse to stop. This Glitch is affecting Teens, young adults, adults and elders.

Are you having this issue? have you solved it?

I have removed my mods and the Glitch is still there.

It started after I installed the latest game update.

@VictoriasUnknown Thank you for the reply and screenshots. I was chatting with a friend who pointed out that a couple of the traits you have on your Sim in the screenshot are from Eco Lifestyle but are roles that only NPC Sims are assigned (by the game), not played/your Sims. These roles are 'Master Crafter' and 'Eco Master'... and the Eco Master is supposed to be on an NPC description is only “they can inspire other sims to be eco conscious”. I am told that the only way that these roles and can only be added to a played Sim is with debug cheats.

With that in mind, did you use debug cheats or a Mod to add any of these traits? If so, removing these could be something to test. My friend also pointed out that if you added traits via a Mod, removing the Mod to test may or may not remove the trait(s) from the Sim that was already added. Obviously if these traits were added via a cheat it would also not be removed with the Mod removal tests.

If any of those factors were the issue and the behaviors came after a game update, it could be that a change that came in the game's code/functions with the new update is conflicting with a cheat or Mod effect.

Do you see the issue if you play a new vanilla (no Mods, CC, cheats, etc.) save in your game - using a family that does not have these or extra traits added? When you test in this new save please also remove the cache file as mentioned in this spoiler tag:

    Spoiler
Exit the game. Move the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can then test without saving – or in a new vanilla game save – in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue. Then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue.

I don't use these traits, I would assume ones like 'collector', 'treasure hunter', 'mystical sensing', and 'kleptomaniac' could have potential for some 'stuff seeking' behavior, but I tend to doubt they would seek it in the trash, and even if any of them did, I doubt all your Sims have these same trait(s).

  • @VictoriasUnknown Since yoiu had Mods &/or CC in your game and it coincided with the latest patch, I would guess the most likely place to start is with the Mods/CC. Did you also remove the localthumbcache.package file? If not, please try again without the cache file mentioned below, and see if the issue is gone then:

Exit the game. Move the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can then test without saving – or in a new vanilla game save – in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue. Then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue.

@VictoriasUnknown If it's not a Mods or CC conflict, I'm a bit stumped. Did you try game repair? Please also make sure your game is fully updated to the most recent version. ( will put instructions for each of these in the spoiler tag, in case you need that.

    Spoiler
    How to update your game:
    • open Origin
    • click ‘Game Library’
    • right-click Sims 4 > Update Game.

How to run a game repair:
    • Open Origin, click ‘Game Library’ then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game
    • Let it run until it has completed all repairs. It will do the base game first, then run through each of your DLCs (Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs and Kits).

Is there a possibility that somehow your settings changed for Eco Lifestyle (if you have this pack)? If you do have the pack, you could try disabling NAPs in settings, or monitor the NAPs.

No, I'm sorry. None of those are the problem either, I checked those too. It started after the last update. I've been playing sims 4 since it came out in 2014, it was gifted to me the day it came out, I loved it ever since and I haven't gone back to sims 1, 2 or 3 since then. Although I'm excited to try sims 5 in the future but would really like this glitch fixed either with a update or mod until sims 5 comes out.❤ I can usually fix the glitches I run into but unfortunately I've had no luck with this one.

Ps: Thank you for your fast response's and trying to help me solve this glitch❤

@VictoriasUnknown Thank you for your gracious words! 🙂 I'm very happy to give some try at tracking down the issues.

A few things we could try or think about further/clarify:

    • Is this happening with only one household or others?
    • Can you take a screenshot of the traits, likes/dislikes, of the household members?
    • If it's just on one lot, what are the lot traits?
    • A friend also said in some cases removing the likes from the household members may help.
    • Is it happening in all worlds?
    • Do you have the Eco Lifestyle pack?

Did you try opening the specific game save you're having the issue with then going to Game Options > Pack Settings > Eco Lifestyle then make sure the settings are unchecked as follows. If they were checked then uncheck them, click the 'apply settings' button, then save your game, close the game, and restart and see if the issue is still there.

If nothing pops in these questions, you're welcome to upload both the household you're having the issue in to the gallery and I could download them and test in my game. This can be done as follows:

    Spoiler
If you would like to share this household to the Gallery I would be happy to test it in my game. You could name it something like "Trash Issue Testing". Then please add a comment in this thread to let me know the name, and please let me know if your User ID in the gallery is different than it is here in the forum.
