Solved

Unusable rooms

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? Sims 4
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Batu, and spooky stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I built a second floor , open to below , big open "hallway" and now the sims cannot walk across the area. They can get up the stairs and walk across the bridge hallway that is side by side to the open to below area but they can't cross the large middle "room" in between. There are no obstacles.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims can't walk through room
What do you expect to see? Sims walking through the room
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I have built this way many times and now it will not work. This grey area is unusable. I have redrawn the room many times, many different ways and none work. This is absolutely frustrating.

Found the problem.  It's nothing in the house.  It's a roof section that is causing the route block.  It's the one I have selected in the pic below.

You'll need to figure out another way to get the look you want with the roof over the side porch.  Maybe just a one tile section there that doesn't go further into the house.

    Btw, nice build.

It's kind of hard to tell what is going on from your pic.  I can see what looks like a kitchen below and assume that's the open area but can't tell for sure and I can't tell what the stairs are doing.  So, a couple more pics would be helpful.  I can think of a couple of things that would cause the route fail though.  I see you are using the short walls.  Take a look at any overhead lights in the room with the grey floor.  They may be hanging too low, and sims can't walk under them.  Another thing it could be is not enough headroom at the top of the stairs.  I think I see you've used a bent stair and sometimes in some situations, especially if a platform is involved, you can get a not enough headroom issue causing a route fail.

If you would be willing to upload the lot to the Gallery, I am willing to take a look at the build to see if I can figure out what is going on.  Just reply here with the name of the lot and your username if it is different than the one you've used here.

    Hope this helps.

  • There are only pot lights in that area, and no platforms on the second floor. They can get up the stairs but cannot cross the floor towards the open area where the kitchen can be seen below. I raised the walls but it did not fix the issue. The only solution right now seems to be closing in the stairs which I don't want (and have been able to keep open in previous builds). It is currently on the gallery as the issue didn't show up until I tried to play a family in the build.

Ok.  You have a lot of Gallery uploads.  I tried the 1st one that came up and that's not it.  What is the name of the lot so I can download it and test it?

  • It will be the last build uploaded.

  • Thank you! I thought I made that roof into two pieces but maybe not!
