Can you post a screenshot please.
Is this happening on the Lot or from the map screen?
Have you tried repairing your game?
Do you use Mods? If so have you tried in a clean game, free of all Mods? Yes, I have used "repair game".
No I do not have mods.
It happens when I am on the lot.
Yes, I will send a screen shot.
More info for you. I downloaded a house from the gallery. I didn't notice it was marked "community lot" I moved a family in with a newborn baby. Later when deleting some Sims because I was told I had too many. Not thinking it was one of the families I deleted. I do know you can't delete newborns! So it left the baby in the house. I have tried changing the lot to "residential" but can't get into the build mode it just gives me the "textfield" warning. I tried moving a Sim back into the house, but it won't let me do that either. Baby just lays there crying!
@2paula22Can you use Mods?
If yes, maybe you can use Destroy object mod.
With this you have a new interaction when Shift click an object / Sim and be able to destroy it.
Try google search for Seebee destroy object mod.For this you need to travel to that lot.
@2paula22 Hi! Would you mind sharing the name of the house you downloaded and the name of the creator? I'd like to see if I get the same results.
I've already done some testing in my save without mods to see if I could replicate the issue you're having. First, I created a husband and wife household and they had a baby. I saved the family with the baby for further testing and deleted the family from the save. I noticed the baby was left on the lot (which is a little creepy I must say). However, I didn't get the weird error you saw and I was able to bulldoze the lot, baby and all (also rather creepy).
Then I added a Community Lot and moved in the family with the baby. I deleted the family and, again, the baby was left on the lot. I still did not get that error and was able to bulldoze the lot.
There are some things here that I don't understand though.
1) You mentioned you were told you had too many sims. Was that an in-game message of some kind? Did you use manage households to delete the families?
2) The lot must have been set as Residential in order for you to move the family in. Sims can only buy and move into Residential lots.
3) You mentioned the baby "lays there crying". When do you see the baby crying after the family was deleted? When I had a sim visit the lots in Live Mode, there is only the bassinet. There's no baby in it. The baby only shows in the bassinet when I click to edit the lot from the Worlds / Map view. After having a sim visit the lots in Live mode, the baby was no longer in the bassinet.
I can share the builder. I don't want her to get any negative replies tho. I have downloaded many of her lots and never had an issue!! So I am not blaming the download. I would like to try it on another lot tho and see if it works ok, but afraid I might end up with two goofy lots!
I did another repair today and am not getting the "blinking red textfield" message. When I start a new game and first thing go to that lot furnishings & baby are there. Baby is was not crying this time. Just all white. Then I clicked on "build" mode. It will not give the the option to do that or change furnishings, colors etc. To add to the confusion, if I click on build a couple more times the music starts playing goofy. The only way to fix this is to log out of game & back in again.
I tried sending a Sim to visit. The mother, baby & babysitter were standing outside & I could interact with them, but could not go into house.
My mistake: lot is marked Rental not commercial
I got a in game message that my "Game Count" was over 80. I know I can change that, but I don't play with all those Sims so just delete them in Manage Household. I don't know any other way to do it.
I use "testing cheats" so tried doing stuff without that, but nothing changed. I did the same tests you did and had the same results. Except on that one lot!! I just can't get into build mode. When I click on that icon, it doesn't do anything except mess up the music.
This sure is a puzzle!!
@2paula22 So, regarding the Sim Count, that number represents the amount of sims you can keep in "My Households". These households are prevented from being culled / deleted by the game. In my mod free save, I have one household with 7 sims in the "My Households" tab. So my Sim Count is 7 / 80 which means I could have 73 more sims in "My Households". Any time you play or edit a household in CAS, they get moved to that tab. You don't have to delete them to remove them from the tab. You can click on the family and then click the "Move Into Other Households" button.
Basically, those sims become like any other NPC in the game. You could still delete them if you want. I'm just making sure you know there's another option.
Now, about your problem lot ... If I'm reading correctly, it sounds like you are going to the lot in live mode then trying to edit but if you have a family living there, you won't be able to go into build mode with a sim from another household. Since you mentioned "mother, baby and babysitter were standing outside", I guessed you must have a household living there.
Please try to go to build mode from the map. When you choose Load Game from the main menu and select a save to play, it will show you the map first. If you're in live mode playing a sim, then you would click the Manage Worlds button, then choose the option so "Save and Go to Manage Worlds" or "Just Go to Manage Worlds".
The Manage Worlds button is in the upper right corner of the game window.
When the map loads, click on your problem lot and then click the Build button.
Does this allow you to get into build mode and make changes to the lot?
Gosh thanks for sticking with me on this!! I sure appreciate it! I must be doing something wrong or maybe there is just a glitch with that lot? I went to the San Sequoia world. Clicked on it. Then clicked on the problem lot. It does give me the choice to "build". However when I click on that, it quickly shows the "scale/squares" (don't know what they are called) but they quickly leave. I have deleted/bulldozed lots before and it is usually easy.
Apparently the family that I moved there is still there although it never shows them. Scroll over the bed and it shows designated side etc. When I sent a Sim from another lot to visit, is when the mother, baby & babysitter were out front but I couldn't go inside house. Could interact with them tho. I am never shown the family icons/faces at bottom left to select one to have them do things.
This is getting frustrating! Guess I just can't play on the lot? Maybe you can figure out what I am doing wrong? BTW the name of the house on the lot is: "Modern Townhouse" by simmarysims.
A thought....should I try to just replace lot with something else from Gallery? Or could I sell it somehow?? Keep in mind it is considered a rental.
If we ever get this fixed I have another lot in another world that has an issue! I just don't play with it. There are plenty of lots etc. to play with!!! LOL I have all the worlds.
Thank again!
@2paula22 I think I've figured out what is happening. First, let me say that it is not a problem with the lot created by simmarysims. I know you were worried about causing trouble for them. The problem causing the glitch is with placing a Residential lot on an existing Rental lot.
I found an existing bug report that I believe matches the issue you are having.
Please click "me too" on the first post and, if you want to, reply and share any details you think are relevant.
The reason I believe this is your issue is based on my testing. I found the Modern Townhouse lot and placed it on the Anchorpoint Abode Rental lot in San Sequoia based on the Gallery photos. The first thing I noticed was that the game didn't prompt me to change the lot type, although the type displayed as Residntial after placing it. When I first placed the family, I had no problems while I was playing them. However, I noticed some of the issues you've mentioned after I deleted the family or if I exited the game and loaded again. I didn't see the warning error you first reported but I did have problems with getting into build mode and had the goofy music when clicking the build button. Also, I was not able to play the family there.
To make sure it wasn't a problem with that specific lot, I tested this in Tartosa on the Villa Vigna Rental lot. I tried various lot types.
When I attempted to place any Residential lots, including Haunted House Residential, I had the same issues. It didn't prompt to change the lot type and the lot was basically broken.
When I attempted to place public lots (lounge, nightclub, etc.) I immediately got the prompt to change the lot type.
Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to fix the lot once it's broken. The only options I can think of are:
- Try to recover a save from before you placed the lot on the Rental lot. If you're able to do this, and you still want to place that Modern Townhouse lot in San Sequoia. First go into build mode for the Rental lot and change it to Residential. After that you will be able to place the lot without any problems. Click the spoiler below for instructions on how to recover a save.SpoilerTo recover a save, click on the Load button and click the save you want. Then click the Recover Save icon and choose a save point from the list that pops up.
- Continue playing that save knowing that you won't be able to use the broken lot.
- Save all the households you want to keep playing and add them to a new game save which will give you a fresh start. Just remember not to place Residential lots on existing Rental lots before changing their lot types to Residential first.
I wish I had better news for you. Hopefully it helps to know that you're not crazy, it's not just you? Other people have had the same problems. Whatever the case, I wish you good luck and happy simming!
I am actually glad to hear others have had this issue in this world! I tried downloading a rental from the gallery onto that lot, however that didn't work. So then downloaded the same rental and the baby & bassinet are gone!!! It still shows the beds are assigned tho. Maybe when their "vacation time" is over they will leave? At least the poor baby is no longer there!
Interested in seeing if you can figure out my issue on another lot? In Strangerville I accidentally put a mailbox on my sim who was living there. When I realized what I had done I went back and changed it back to normal. However, I did it when she was not on the lot! So, now the huge mailbox is still there just not on lot. Any ideas?
@2paula22 I'm guessing you mean you used the cheat to "Set As Head" then then used "Reset Object" on the mailbox to remove it. It looks like this in my game.
Is this similar to what you're seeing? If so, use the Set As Head cheat on the large mailbox.
Then use the Reset Object cheat on the sim this time (not the mailbox).
