Woodworking table doesn't always work

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.103.315.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Expansions: Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Island Living, Discover University, Cottage Living, Horse Ranch Game packs: Outdoor Retreat, Spa Day, Vampires, Parenthood, Jungle Adventure, Strangerville, Realm of Magic, Journey to Batuu , Werewolves Stuff packs: Luxury Party, Perfect Patio, Spooky, Romantic Garden, Backyard, Bowling Night, Fitness, Laundry Day, My First Pet, Tiny Living, Paranormal Kits: Country Kitchen, Courtyard Oasis, Fashion Street, Industrial Loft, Moonlight Chic, Little Campers, Desert Lux, Simtimates, Greenhouse Haven, Basement Treasures Holiday Celebration and Grim's Ghoulish Guitar
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Select items to craft on the woodworking table.
What happens when the bug occurs? Nothing, your Sim just stands there and no queued up image happens in the lower left corner.
What do you expect to see? If it does work, then you will see the woodworking table icon in the queue your Sim is about to do. Then your Sim will go to the woodworking table and start to craft. But for some reason, sometimes nothing happens.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I'm currently using a brand new save, and was trying to use a woodworking table on a Café lot type. Sometimes it would work, but other times nothing would happen. There are mouse holes on the lot, but that didn't seem to be the issue. I'll try more testing later.

  • I've tried testing it again, same lot, but now I could always craft things. Now I'm starting to wonder if it has to do with the level of handiness.  Because I remember years ago, not being able to repair a clothesline, I had enough skill to do it, but just enough. I would click on repair, and nothing would happen. Now to test this again with a Sim without any handiness... juet tried that, but that still didn't replicate the issue.

I had saved and exited the game before, and it kept off and on not letting me kraft, but now all is well. So I have no clue what was going on. Maybe fully exiting the game got it out of the glitch?

  • @amoeller87 Could you please test another lot/Sim to see if the same issue occurs.

Does it matter what you try to craft ?

  • @amoeller87 I'm having this issue too, i've never made any items on that lot though. my sim had all the crafting options despite him never using it (he may have without me knowing at one of the city living festival since he had an item created from one of those in his inventory so that could've caused the issue). i've tried restarting and repairing my game and it still isn't working.

@xxmissawsumxx Are you using mods and CC? If so, have you tested vanilla? Drag the Mods folder to the desktop, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.

  • I noticed my carpentry table was working fine until the update in January when I added Brazenlotus crafting mods and combined them with midevil crafting. they actually work ok together on my computer. Last year, I made both a bow for target shooting and a preserving rack for tea and butter. somewhere after the mods needed to reset after the big winter update, I noticed only the cc crafting stuff would work. the total loss of function for the woodworking table happened when I accidentally downloaded a big cc package thinking it was just one building set but it came with a whole woodworking set that broke my woodworking table. even after uninstalling all woodworking mods, I never was able to use it again. My woodworking table won't work at all. seriously has the woodworking table been updated? I would like to know a way to fix this. and maybe I'm to blame partially but, I see comments saying some people don't use cc or mods but they have the same issues. It would be nice to get an update for the old woodworking table so you could build more finely crafted beautiful objects with high skill levels and have more choices on what to make. for instance, all furniture including beds would be craftable alongside a cloth-making and sewing pack so you can design clothes and blankets, drapes, etc. just by choosing the parts and colors to create an object design that's in a background that's just like cas, only for craftables. this way you get to fully customize the look of everything even better than Sims 3. Please EA! I'm really wanting crafting to be elevated and featured with new careers and skills such as being a fashion designer or seamstress or textiles maker in the Sims 4. What about carpentry being a real job rather than a hobby? what about a cas mode for craftables? it would really be kinda cool. oh and we need metal smithing as well. please, thank you! I know I'm

I know I'm supposed to be replying to your conversation but I had some ideas that need to be shared. please share my ideas. thank you and yeah not everything works now in Sims 4. I'm still waiting for things to smooth out.

@HOTNERDUNICORN If something broke after you added mods and CC, there's a real chance that the mods and CC are the problem. BrazenLotus's have multiple parts; try deleting hers and redownloading, checking the installation instructions carefully, including for conflicts -- different mods modifying woodworking might conflict if they're all override mods. Test that without other CC. When you delete or update any files, be sure to also delete localthumbcache.
