I have a Mac OS X El Capitan and after the mandatory November 2019 update, my Sims 4 game is glitching and freezing. I just downloaded University and can't play. t freezes and just stops and I can't ...
Merged your posts into this thread as the issue is El Capitan. Please upgrade your OS to 10.13.6 High Sierra or later to get back into your game. Sierra is also causing issues for some, especially those with AMD graphics cards.
I'm having the same issue. I've been running my game on Ultra with no lag or problem, until I ran the Nov 2019 update. Now when I start my game, create a sim or add one from my gallery, place them on a lot... the game starts to zoom in on them, then just hangs. The end. I have to do a hard shut down to get out of it, because it takes out my Finder too. It does not create a last crash file. A few times when it was trying to zoom in after I placed my sim, I could see all kinds of graphic glitches around the screen, but they're different every time. Also a couple times in CAS, the sim I created would look mostly black, or white, unless I put my cursor over it, then it appeared normal. I have been trying everything I've read to do, starting with repairing the game, pulling my Sims 4 folder and creating a new one, to finally deleting my game via Origin, and redownloading it. Before I ran the patch, I pulled my mods and backed up my saves and Tray folders. After all the "fixes" I've tried, I've run a new test save with no mods. Every time, no matter what I've done, the same thing happens. As soon as I place a sim on a lot the game hangs and takes out my computer.
i don't use antivirus software. I have all expansions, game packs & stuff packs except: Discover University, Realm of Magic, Moschino Stuff, Kids Room Stuff, Toddler Stuff.
Here's a picture of a random sim, one of the times I attempted a new save. The middle one was with my cursor over it. The other two happened before and after I had my cursor over the sim.
@SherwoodSpiritI'm having that exact same problem and I have almost the same specs as you. Dunno what to do. My computer crashed so badly it turned off after I tried to load a lot.
I talked with EA tech support finally, he tried to help me troubleshoot, and after everything it turns out that it’s a known issue and we will just have to wait until Origin fixes the problem.
@BluebellfloraEl Capitan is still listed as supported in system requirements. It is metal capable and 64 bit. I can not upgrade past El Capitan or I won't be able to use Adobe CS6, which I need. I've spent a considerable amount of time researching this and everything I've read says I should be able to play Sims 4 with my current system. It seems to me EA broke something with the patch. Surely they'll patch again to fix it?
@SherwoodSpirit I am running Adobe CS5.5 and I was able to download a Java plugin that allows them to work in High Sierra. CS6 should have a Java plugin available too I would imagine... I backed up my computer first before updating, to be safe, but once I had High Sierra installed, when I opened Illustrator it prompted me to download the plugin and everything was peachy after that.
@Bluebellflora Thank you so much! Updating to High Sierra solved all my issues. I was able to load the game and play it normally, at least for the hour that I spent testing it out to make sure there were no glitches or crashes, of which there were none.
For those still wondering, El Capitan is about 4 versions back from Catalina, and I actually didn't know I was that far behind in OS updates. My biggest fear was updating to a newer OS because as I said in my other post, I am running OLD adobe creative suite programs and my biggest fear is breaking those because Adobe's monthly subscription plan is out of my budget. But I was able to download a Java plugin that made those work for High Sierra, so I am happy. Thank you!
