2017 MacBook Pro completely restarts upon game launch

    Hi!! @Bluebellflora 

    Just wanted to follow up with an update! It seems that my logic board was malfunctioning, but it didn't alert me during any of the operations or test functions run. I had to send the device into Apple who did a deep dive and was also super confused about the issue and why it wasn't alerting me to the source. So, they replaced the logic board and it's been working well since. I've actually noticed some more little popping noises so that's a little concerning and I'll probably drop back into my local apple store, but I can play the game again which is a good thing!! 

    Thank you again for all your help and patience! It's been a long road, but every issue has to have a solution right?!

@Bluebellflora 

I just followed the NVRAM reset and SMC reset instructions and the game sill restarted my Mac. I honestly have no words. It gets hot, but not stupidly hot. When I launch the game I can hear the internal fan click on and it remains on for the duration of gameplay.

On another note, I did just want to say thank you! You are helping me so much and I really appreciate you!

    I wish I actually was helping you! So far nothing has worked. Maxis have just released a patch, let me know how you get on after installing...... If it's still broken we'll keep trying 🙂

    I hope I updated correctly. I went into the new (nonbeta) Origin app and manually pushed update game. I did it and then closed Origin before opening it again to test the game. It still caused my Mac to crash. I hear clicking/popping slightly right before it shuts off sometimes and there was one time that my screen pixilated slightly before going black. Every time it automatically starts again, sound quality and visuals are fine!

    I followed the instructions to complete a diagnostic check and it came back with no issues. I even added a user to my Mac, made it an admin and logged into that new desktop to try the game and it still crashed.

    You could always do a complete factory reset of your Mac but that would be a last resort. So instead of reinstalling the OS you would wipe and reformat the drive and install a fresh copy of macOS. Drastic but I've run out of ideas, sorry I couldn't help.

    I think it may be an idea to take it to an Apple Store once they reopen and have them check the hardware ☹️

    Im sorry for this late replay! The last couple days have been crazy. Thank you so much for your help. I can’t even begin to say how appreciative I am. I will turn to Apple and see if they have any suggestions for me. 

    Question: how do I praise you? Can I tell someone how awesome and patient you were?

    Thank you SO much for coming back all this time later and updating me. I love it when people take the time to do that, it means a lot and that our efforts aren't wasted ❤️ It's also great because we learn things too 🙂

    The popping noises don't sound too great but hopefully Apple will sort it out for you. I had a 2009 15" MBP which had so many faults it was back and forth with Apple so often - replacement logic boards, screens, optical drive, keyboard. Eventually, 2 months before the Applecare ran out in 2012, they replaced the whole machine with the latest model. It was just a really buggy machine sadly.
