Ambitions will not launch

I've owned and played the Sims 3 Starter Pack (physical copy) for a few years now. I recently bought a physical copy of Sims 3 Ambitions and installed it to my Mac.

Ambitions said it needed an update, so I clicked "yes" to install the update, but it said there was a problem. I knew my Sims 3 base game said it needed an update, but I disabled the launcher a while ago because it stopped working.

It took me a while to find the patch online, but I did, and I downloaded it. Now, Ambitions won't even give me the "needs updating" window, it just says an error occurred.

I'm extremely frustrated with this and am feeling like I wasted my money on an expansion pack that won't work. Is there any way to solve this problem?

As always you have nothing to lose by uninstalling and reinstalling, it just takes time and is a pain! If you do, make sure to get rid of all the hidden files, as I've mentioned before. You could uninstall and reinstall in your main account, apply the digital patch and then try and play in the secondary account?

I successfully installed the patch, then was able to open and play the base game. Then I downloaded and installed Late Night, but it gave me the "Unknown Error Occurred" message again when I tried to play it. I did all of this on my new user account.
Should I try other EPs? Or should I just give up on those and accept that I can only play the base game?
(I can't believe there isn't a solution to this, and I'm upset about losing the EPs I paid for, but I don't want to lose the whole game again)

This happened with LN before didn't it? So weird. Yes, get it back to a working base game again and try a different EP.

I uninstalled Late Night and was finally able to play Ambitions for the first time since I bought it!!
You're right, Late Night caused problems earlier too, which is really strange because I had been playing it for years, but oh well. At least now I can play with my new EP!
I'm a little nervous to try to install the High End Loft SP I had before, but I could probably live without it.

That's what happened to me with Showtime, it's really bizarre and I have no idea why. So pleased you can play though at last! Sorry it took so long to get you going again though ☹️
