    I found a solution. No promises that it'll work for everybody, but it seems to be working for me. Open the Audio MIDI Setup app (should be under Other in Launchpad), click the Format dropdown, and change it to 96,000 Hz. I don't know why this worked, but I'm not having any crackling anymore.

@SadestPotato i'm having the same issue as well, along with crashing issues. I also have the M1 chip, really frusterating

I had the crashing issue too, but if you can load it - go to settings and make sure the vertical sync box is ticked. Once I did this it has never crashed. Hope it helps 🙂
