August 2018 Update not working

When I try to load The Sims 4, it redirects me straight to Origin without even being able to load the game. When it says I need to update the game it says "verifying game files" and then about 1 minute later it says to check my internet connection or try again later because the update failed, despite me being clearly connected to the internet.

I contacted EA and they said the programmers were working on the problem, but does anyone know how long with will take or another way of fixing the game? I do not have any mods on my game, just 2 expansion packs.

  • Hello.

Sorry to hear you have this problem.

Can you try and re - install origin?

Hope your game can be fixed soon!

-It sounds like a problem on Origin's side.

It is a known issue for Macs that EA are working on.

@lightingclouds  If you are using OS X Yosemite you could try to update to  macOS Sierra, or macOS Hight Sierra.  you can do this update by pressing the apple icon on the top of your screen and go to "about this mac" there will be a way to see what OS your currently using and the ability to update if your device is compatible.

  • @lightingclouds  I'm glad to read that you solved your issue by updating your OS.  For anyone else who comes across this thread, mac users running OS Yosemite have been unable to download games from Origin for a few weeks now.  EA is aware of the issue and is working on a solution, which, when available, will be posted in this thread:

In the meantime, updating to High Sierra will solve the problem.  For those whose computers can't support HS, El Capitan should be sufficient.  Both can be found by searching the app store.

After the update, it may be necessary to run the Origin reset tool for macs.

Also, make sure to back up your entire Sims 4 folder before updating either the Mac OS or Origin. There have been instances where all saved games in addition to Origin owned games libraries have vanished as well. Back up either an external hard drive or a USB thumb drive.

  • Don't worry bro i think a lot of us right now are having the same issue it's not the first time this has happened, just turn off all automatic updates for now then check on it in a month or 2 but sometimes it's like this for a few months, i know they still throw in bits and bobs into the sims games which i adore even in TS2 which is much appriciated 🙂 <3 but sometimes the updates just break.
