Can't get the game to launch Sims 3

I am trying to play the Sims 3 game. I have a Mac OSX 10.10.5. Every time I try to launch the game it says "Cannot start the process when the game is running. Please quit the game and try again." 

Here is what I have done so far to try to fix the issue:

Uninstalled and Reinstalled the game as well as expansion packs and stuff packs (multiple times)

Deleted the preference folder 

Restarted the computer 

Quit the game 

Hope someone out there can help. Thanks so much in advance! Here's a picture of exactly what the error message looks like:

    I do have a post 2013 mac. I went through your fix for it and the game will now launch sort of. Thank you for all your help so far! Unfortunately now all that shows up is this: 

    I saw you had a way to fix that too, or at least I thought I did. Could you perhaps tell me how to get to that please? Thanks again!

    Unfortunately not ☹️ There is no magic fix as the problem is compatibility between your Mac and the game although the link I gave you is the closest possibility. Trying with just the base game may work as adding in certain EPs, possibly Late Night and Ambitions, cause the game to not work at all.
