Great đ That would indicate something is running in your normal account, either a background app or a process, that may be causing the crash. Can you remember installing anything before the crashing started, apart from updating the game?
Also, which specific model Mac do you have? Year, model and CPU.

@BluebellfloraI didn't install anything new between when I last played and started troubleshooting (obvs I did the Origin reset and all the troubleshooting stuff). The only apps I have running are Chrome (which I've always have open) and Sims 4, plus the ever-present Origin client. I

Thanks. I wonder if you're having a memory crash. 4GB RAM is low. Chrome is a horrible resource hog so you should definitely have that fully closed when playing. This would also explain why it works in the new account, because you won't be running as many processes as in your usual user account and it's relatively clean and clutter free. - 4 years ago@Bluebellflora True, but I've definitely had worse Chrome luck. I closed it, and it still crashed right after that first screen.

Yeah but did you then open Activity Monitor and close any residual processes? It would also be worth checking the memory usage in Activity Monitor too https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/activity-monitor/welcome/mac and this for specific RAM usage https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/activity-monitor/actmntr1004/mac - 4 years ago@Bluebellflora I wish I could understand the Activity Monitor better, but I had definitely closed Chrome completely. The usage went down by a little less than 1GB.
- 4 years ago@Bluebellflora I also kept the activity monitor open while trying to run TS4, and it didn't max out or even come close before it crashed again. :/

How much memory was used? Remember that the OS needs RAM, a lot of it, and if it's running low it will struggle to run anything else well. If Chrome then used a 1GB that's leaving barely anything for any other apps, let alone one as resource heavy as the game.
The workaround for you is to play in the new user account you created. I really believe, from the troubleshooting we have done, that the issue is your Mac struggling to run an intensive game and the main problem is memory.
With low spec. machines there is only so much you can keep adding to resource heavy apps like Sims 4 before it starts to buckle. This is why the Legacy Edition of the game was introduced, because the game is advancing, requiring more power and resources, and older tech. simply could not have kept up. Eventually that will happen to all our Macs âšī¸ - 4 years ago
@BluebellfloraIt went to 3GB total (leaving plenty) before it crashed. The OS takes up less than 2GB.

1GB RAM is not plenty, it's barely anything. It's stripping resources from other areas and not caching data in an attempt to keep some memory free so the Mac doesn't freeze.
Just play in the other account that isn't running so many processes using RAM and make sure not to have anything else open while you play. - 4 years ago@Bluebellflora Just letting you know I finally found a solution that works and isn't a headache: the new Sims 4 folder. It had nothing to do with my RAM, though I do understand my computer is getting old.
