Prior to my Big Sur update, I was running the most recent versions of Catalina (there was an update shortly after the 9/2020 patch). The crashing happened on both versions, even on the lowest graphics settings (with and without laptop mode on).
Currently on Big Sur, I went to low everything AND laptop mode, and it still crashes. I've toyed with being on low medium, medium and high as well - same freezing every time but currently with LOW and LAPTOP MODE, it's still freezing up. The only difference now is I can toggle back to my desktop to force quit versus a manual shutdown. This was a bit of a win, lol.
Edit - added code tags for readability and took out machine name, Bluebellflora
Super thanks. When you say you lowered everything I understand that is the graphics settings but have you played around with resolutions?
For example in mine the lowest would be 1,600 x 1,200. Have you tested the equivalent to see if it still locks up the game? And then tested that lowest setting in fullscreen versus windowed mode.

I tried windowed mode and it was actually more unstable.
My resolution is currently set to 2560x1440 (first option available for me). I did play around with other resolutions last week but the display looks horrible so I never played on them for very long.

Ok. I understand it looked horrible but could you play for a while and see if the issue happens? - 5 years ago
Yes, but it's already on the lowest available setting, does that matter?
- Bluebellflora5 years agoHero+@aftksims
You said "the display looks horrible so I never played on them for very long." was this on lower resolutions? You can put it in windowed mode and drag the size of the game window by grabbing the corner. Make it small and check the resolution is low again. If there is a lower setting then choose that one. - 5 years ago
Sorry, just want to make sure I am doing this correctly, I am currently on the lowest setting of 2560x1440. I have higher resolution options and when toying with things last week tried them out but the settings were horrible so I've been back down to the default/lowest setting.
Also when I did windowed mode it almost immediately locked up.
- Bluebellflora5 years agoHero+@aftksims
Do you think you can screenshot the graphics options window in windowed mode? So open up the options window then switch to windowed mode and immediately take a screenshot., You can toggle into and out of windowed mode using CMD, CTRL and F. - 5 years ago
Ok see attached - just wanted to include everything.
- Bluebellflora5 years agoHero+@aftksims
Really great thanks 🙂 Whatever the settings, the game is still locking up but only the game, no longer the whole system? - 5 years ago
Yes so when I was running Catalina, I couldn't toggle back to the desktop ever. I would still have a moveable pointer and could hear the Sims music playing though. The only way to move forward was a forced shut down.
Since the Big Sur upgrade I can at least toggle back to the desktop and force quit. I did try to leave it for 10-15 minutes to see if the game would officially crash out but it never does, so force quit it is.

Thanks but copying and pasting is far easier for comparison, please could you do that? - 5 years ago
@Bluebellflora sure, but it keeps deleting itself? is there a special way to post it? not sure how to do that little gray box thing

Hello,
I've been experiencing the same issues since the September patch, posted this like a month ago on this forum (this or a merged thread). I must say, I'm still experiencing the issues, but my game is not completely unplayable. I've noticed the game lags a little first and only when I continue (and especially spin my camera more or very fast) it freezes.
I have a habit of saving my game a lot (I've had this habit for years, since I had an issue when my Sims 4 game crashed every time a time machine backup was initiated).
But most importantly, I spin my camera very slowly now... Every time the game lags a little bit when spinning the camera, I save and restart. It's sad of course that I have to adjust and interrupt my gameplay because of a stupid bug, but hey... This way, I'm still enjoying my game :-)
Of course, whether it's an issue on EA's end or Apples end, I hope someone discovers what's causing this freezing thing and it gets fixed either by EA or Apple...
So here's the information from my Terminal:
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelLpssI2C (3.0.60)
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelLpssDmac (3.0.60)
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelLpssI2CController (3.0.60)

com.apple.kext.AMDSupport (3.1.0)
com.apple.kext.AMD10000Controller (3.1.0)
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelPCHPMC (2.0.1)

com.apple.kext.AMDFramebuffer (3.1.0)
And as a reminder, my specs:

macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 (19H2)
Processor: 3,2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

I do the same thing, many saves and restarts, but I can’t get 20-30 minutes without a camera angle change (or zoom in) to eventually lead to a full freeze. Sometimes the first few times I get the spinning wheel and it unfreezes itself, but it always progresses to a full freeze the next time.
Yesterday I tried and I got a full game freeze immediately upon loading a lot and zooming in.

Super, thanks 🙂 Would you be willing to upload your most recent save that crashed and Pm me the link too please? - 5 years ago
Just PMed you a DropBox link.
- znijnz5 years agoSeasoned Rookie@Bluebellflora just sent you a PM :-)

Just a thought... Because I was just having lots of freezing on a particular lot in my save...
Could this issue maybe have something to do with the new way the game treats/calculates windows and doors? That broke cc windows for one, but maybe the calculations (or something way too technical for me, I don't know much about this stuff tbh) the game now makes, somehow mess up the way the graphics cards in our iMacs work? I dunno...
The lot I was having the issues with (save file I sent to @Bluebellflora ) is a lot with cc windows that I 'fixed' for the time being by placing Basegame windows on top of them with bb.moveobjects on.

@znijnz Definitely goes along with an earlier theory that something in the the more recent patches is triggering this to happen. If only they could figure out what. I don’t know coding or technology either but I personally have never had a game just not work like this. Even sims 3 wouldn’t do this particular problem to my Mac which is so bizarre to me.
Update from today’s attempt to play.
I’ve been staying away from the game in some hopes maybe it will fix itself (silly I know)
but this is interesting, and still bizarre but today my game gave me the rainbow wheel, red screen, then pixelated screen but much to my surprise fixed itself as in my game came back on screen and worked for a moment but then another rainbow wheel came and completely froze.
I feel like my game wants to work but something is holding it back!
- znijnz5 years agoSeasoned Rookie@Bluebellflora It was the Treetop Oasis in San Myshuno... In the meantime, the creator of the cc windows and doors there, updated all his cc windows and doors (and posted the master post to those yesterday after I added my thoughts in this thread).
As I encounter the issue on lots with or without any cc, I don't think it's the cc that causes it (but it might be triggering it more quickly), but the way the game thinks since that September patch...
