Game freezes and becomes unresponsive after not even 5 minutes

I’ve recently re-downloaded the game after 4 months and I’ve encountered a problem. After not even 5 minutes the game freezes and my computer says that the game is not responding. At first I though maybe CAS was the problem since it always happened there, so I tried to bypass it by just downloading a sim off the gallery. Unfortunately when I went to try and place the sim on a lot, the game froze again, the amount of time I had been in the game was probably something like 3-5 minutes. I un-downloaded the game from my computer and re-downloaded it again but it still didn’t fix the issue. 
I am playing on an 2018 MacBook Air, and have been playing the Sims 4 on the computer since I’ve gotten it, never had this problem before. I have no mods of cc installed, so that is definitely not the problem. I’ve also repaired the game and that has not helped, my game is also up to date. I really don’t know what to do to fix the problem.
