Game indefinitely freezes on save screen

This is a new issue for me, the game always ran smoothly on my Mac. Now for the past two days the game won't save properly anymore after I started a new game. Sometimes it will save (my household was saved, as was their lot), the game runs smoothly while playing, but then when I go to save after a while, it will just get stuck on the saving screen. It doesn't 'freeze' per se as the little circle keeps turning but no matter how long I wait, it doesn't save. I end up having to force quite the app and losing my progress. 

I removed the Sims folder and started a clean game, added my stuff back in, then it saved at first but happened again. 

I repaired the game via Origin. 

I do use mods and cc but never had this issue until now.

Anyone got any ideas? Getting kind of desperate here.. lost my progress three times now (definition of insanity anyone?)

MacBook Pro

15-inch, 2014

Processor: 2,8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    It's most probably Mod related, probably conflicting or out of date Mods. You need to move out your Mods folder, trash the localthumbcache.package file then load up your game and see if it will save. This will cause a problem though if your save depends on any Mods or CC as it will be saved without them.

    This is currently happening to my game after 3 hours of building. Like you, this is a brand new issue for me. I have always kept my mods organized and up to date (my mods have caused an issue with my game only one time since I’ve started playing the sims 4 - every other issue ended up coming from bugs inside of the game). Please skip the “it’s your mods” response .. what’d I’d like to know is if there is ANY way to save my current progress before I decide to force quit the program. Are there any temporary hidden files I could backup? Is there some kind of developer menu I could access? Hate this

    In my saves folder, a new folder called “scratch” was created at the same time I started building. Is there any way I can use this to recover my progress?

    No, there is no way to recover from a frozen screen. You could maybe recover a backup save.

    The scratch folder is created in your saves folder when you launch the game and automatically removed when you quit the game. When the game crashes/freezes the scratch folder is typically not removed because the game is non-responsive but should be trashed manually.

    Me too, I'm having similar issues. It saves when I'm in manage worlds but once I enter a household and go into build mode, it freezes on the save screen.
