Games Freezing and Bright Red Screen

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.62.69.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Get Famous, Island Living, Discover University, Outdoor Retreat, Dine Out, Vampires, Parenthood, Jungle Adventure, Strangerville, Realm of Magic, Perfect Patio Stuff, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Movie Hangout Stuff, Romantic Garden Stuff, Kids Room Stuff, Backyard Stuff, Vintage Glamour Stuff, Toddler Stuff, Laundry Day Stuff, My First Pet Stuff, Tiny Living Stuff.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? It's not found but just happens
What happens when the bug occurs? It usually happens when I'm trying to save a build/game or just as I'm playing. The game freezes and does not respond for about 2-3 minutes. If I press any key or click the mouse more than twice, the screen goes bright red for about 3-5 minutes. After that the game will come back on but stays frozen therefore I am forced to quit the game which in turn makes me lose the build or game progress. Once I am able to re-open the game and go to the last lot I played on, I find that either the family summary doesn't appear and I am unable to open that household or there is a black square on top of the lot (if it is a build I was working on).
What do you expect to see? I expect to be able to save my game without the game freezing to the point where I have to forcefully quit the game and lose my gameplay
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Sometimes it happens without the bright red screen, but still freezes and I have to force quit. It has happened a total of 4 times now and is getting really frustrating. The only thing that continues to work even through the red screen or just frozen is the music.

    Hi, @Bluebellflora

    Thank you for your reply. Below are the details for my Mac;

    • Version: 10.14.6
    • iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5 Inch, 2019)
    • Processor: 3.6 GHz Intel Core i3
    • Memory: 8 GB 2400MHz DDR4
    • Graphics: RadeonPro 555X 2 GB

    I am playing normal version of the game, do not run any type of antivirus, I have removed all CC and I don't see a repair game option when I right click the game.

    Hope this information can help. Would it be worth a try to completely uninstall the game as well as origin and re-install everything from the beginning?

    Thank you for your help 🙂

    Thanks 🙂 but please remove your serial number from your post, that is not needed.

    It's an odd glitch, I'm thinking it may be a hardware issue with your AMD GPU but it could also be a simple driver issue or something gone awry in the installation, doubtful though. Try this super repair - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612394#M815

    Maybe updating to 10.15 Catalina would help if it is a Mac OS driver issue but you would not then be able to run any 32-bit apps if you have any installed.

    @Bluebellflora

    Hello, I followed the instructions on the link you provided, I won't be sure if the red screen will stop but I still have the black square over where my build was. I am going to see whether I need to update to 10.15 Catalina or not. I am also going to try uninstalling it and re-installing it to see if that helps anything :/

    Thank you again for your help, I would have never known where to start! 🙂

    Someone else posted the same weird black box a while ago, I think it was in Newcrest but can't remember definitely. Have you tried a game with a new Sims 4 folder? Move your current one to the desktop then launch the game and see if it persists.
