Issues with transferring save files and cc for Sims 4 to new computer
I just got a new MacBook and I wanted to transfer some of my save files and my CC from my old MacBook to this one. I transferred everything onto a flash drive from my old computer and then onto my new computer. I placed the files into the correct folder on my new laptop after downloading sims and they still haven't shown up in the game. Ive tried disabling and enabling the cc and mods option in the game and still nothing. my save files also aren't showing up in my game. Any ideas on what to do?
@Lmlh2000 I am not sure if these instructions will entirely cover all aspects of what your issue is, but I will do my best. Please clarify if I'm off-base on this so I know what is different in what you need.
Please make sure your Sims 4 game and packs are all showing up in your game in the new game install. If any or your game content/packs is/are missing after install, please run a game repair. Edit: I have learned that there was an update in Origin a month ago, and now the normal repair in Origin will repair all packs on Mac also. But obviously if you are not missing any of your packs in your new game install (which you did not state as an issue) this is a moot point anyway, but I wanted to mention the correction, just in case. On Mac a game repair will only repair the base game. If you have missing packs or need to repair a pack/s, you will need to follow BlueBellFlora's directions at the link in the spoiler tag below:
• Open Origin, click ‘Game Library’ then right-click Sims 4 > Repair Game
• If you’re on PC, make sure to let it run until it has completed all repairs (it will do the base game first, then run through each of your DLCs (Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs). • If you’re on Mac, the repair in Origin will only repair your base game. Learn why and how to repair your DLCs (Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs) at this link: https://bluebellflora.com/2020/06/17/repairing-sims-4-packs-in-origin/
Next, please copy the following folders from your old computer to a flash drive:
Edit: Launch the game first on the new computer so the game creates all of the game folder(s).
Go to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4
You will want to save the following folders:
Saves. This folder contains all of your game-saves
Tray. This folder contains your Sims, Rooms and Lots you have saved to your Library.
Mods. If you have Mods activated in your game you will have a Mods folder. If you have added any Mods or CC to your game they will be in this folder.
Screenshots.
Recorded Videos.
Now insert the flash drive into your new computer and copy and paste each of these folders into your new 'The Sims 4' folder from your new game install: Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.
Next please delete your cache file on your new game install/new computer
How to delete cache: • Exit your game and Origin • Go to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 • Delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder (your game will re-create this folder next time you open the game)
@Lmlh2000 Please post the full file path of the Sims 4 folder where you've added your content. Right-click on the folder and select Get Info, then copy the info under "Where."
Moved your thread to the Mac forum as it is Mac specific related to file structure. If you could answer Puzzleadddict's question that would be really helpful. There is no need to repair your game at this stage as your problem is not an installation issue.
