Lost all my progress

I played the game a couple of weeks ago and saved my progress before I closed the game like I always do. I came back, updated the game in the EA app as requested, and when I opened the game I saw that all my progress from years of playing was lost, except the last house I built. I have tried to look for help, but the only help/steps I can find seems to be for Windows, whilst I use Macbook. Can anyone help me?
