    so I just had that same issue, and I have an external screen but I unchecked the "Retina display' in sims settings and it appears to work as of now

Can you restart your Mac? If you had an Intel Mac an NVRAM reset would help but on Apple silicon Macs a restart should help.

It's also possible that there is something conflicting with the external display settings.
