Try using Finder to go to your Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4 folder and rename/delete/move UserData.log, then try relaunching. If you prefer the command line then open Terminal and try:
rm -rf "~/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/UserData.lock"
Then try to launch the game again.
Good to know! Iโm not having this problem, but hopefully that will help the others. I guess a clean Sims 4 folder would also work with saves/tray/mods folders copied over?
Thanks ๐
- 7 years ago@Bluebellflora , yeah, my first thought was that the whole folder was somehow corrupt or damaged. Never hurts to start fresh unless you have save-games that are really intricate and you can't bear to live without. That's why I decided to try narrowing down the problem to see if I could be more targeted.
- 7 years agohmm, it did work with getting my game to boot (finally! thank you), but now all my saves and everything else is gone. how can I remedy this? it might be super-easy and I'm just being dense, but I don't want to mess anything else up in the process :-/

Are the saves still showing in your saves folder and the location of your Sims 4 folder is in the right place? Users > [your user account] > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4
Just checking in case your iCloud settings are interfering and itโs being stored in the cloud. - 7 years ago@Bluebellflora yes, everything is still in their folders, but they are not showing up in-game. no lots, no sims, nothing

Ok.
Please could you click on your Saves folder once to select it then go to File > Get Info. Under the General > Where section near the top of the info window please copy and paste the whole file path location of your Saves folder here. You can omit your user account name ๐ - 7 years ago@Bluebellflora sure - I got this Macintosh HD//Users/Kamel/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4. does that mean anything?

Great, just wanted to check it was local on your machine which it is. Move the Sims 4 folder out to your desktop, launch the game, play a household then save. Quit then see if you can load that new save. - 7 years ago@Bluebellflora okay, I did all of that, and when re-launching the game I was able to load the new save I just made. it was not reset like before.

Progress! Trash that save and then put your old ones into the new saves folder, see if it works (fingers crossed). - 7 years ago@Bluebellflora yay - that worked - thank you so much :-) is there something else I could put back in order to get my sims and lots back into my local gallery?

Hello! Anybody has an issue with the game freezing? It freezes when I'm in CAS, in build mode and live mode. There's no specific place and action when it happens.
I have the game fully updated, my Mac is on newest version of Catalina and I have no mods installed. Please, help, I was so happy to finally play the game but โน๏ธ

Merged the Catalina thread into this main OS thread now the game is working.

Did you try a new Sims 4 folder with just your existing Saves and Tray folders in there? - coxda19907 years agoRising Rookie
I am also having this same issue. I'm running macOS Catalina 10.15 Beta and why I'm excited that I'm able to get the game running. Shortly after the game starts I get a rainbow loading wheel and my game freezes. I've always have had my graphics to high and never had a problem. I even tried to put my graphics on low and it still freezes. So I know it's not my computer.
