my save files aren't showing in game?

I recently had to restart my laptop (Mac running High Sierra) and when this happened a lot of files were lost. My Sims 4 save files are still in the folder, and the one I'm attempting to open is the...

    The game will never load data from any location other than Documents > Electronic Arts (unless you do some symlink stuff in Terminal) so whatever you read was incorrect unfortunately.

    Make sure all your saves are in the right location - Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves.

that's where it was originally, but one of the answers on here suggested moving the file to the desktop to try to access it. the new files are saving to the same folder, the old ones just aren't available. if i go through my hard drive, the location is /Users/alaina/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4.
