origin says external hard drive not mounted

So I have a WD 1 TB Passport external hard drive on a macbook air. I downloaded origin onto it and created two files. One for the Destination and the other for the cache. I downloaded the Sims 4 through origin but every time I try to open up the game it just automatically goes to error

Also I tried downloading the vampire extension onto to the hard drive but it says that my external hard drive isn't mounted even though I'm 99% sure it is because I've already cleared it, and have Origin successfully downloaded onto it

    Playing the game off of an external hard drive is a tricky thing. It can cause issues with the game and the saves. The game and Origin normally want to look for your game on your computer's hard drive. You will have to go into your Origin preferences and change to where you want the games to install otherwise it will always install to your normal hard drive. (At least this is what is recommended for the Windows OS).

    Personally, I would simply install the game on your normal hard drive and if absolutely necessary then move everything to the external hard drive and make sure that you change all game preferences to recognize the external hard drive. Once you get the game installed and before transferring, start it up and allow the normal Electronic Arts folders to generate to see if you have any other issues. I would not install Mods or CC until you make sure the game is functioning properly and Origin is directed to look for the game on the external hard drive.

    I don't understand why you have created two files when Origin automatically does this when you install it? Origin should be installed in your Applications folder but before downloading anything you can go into Origin Preferences and choose your external as the game library location.

    It would be much better to make the drive bootable and install macOS onto it. You can then boot directly into it from your Mac and install Origin and your games onto it. If you need help doing this just ask 🙂

    I am having that exact same issue!! I was having storage issues and so I had to update to Catalina and since then my cc, won't show up in game. And its not allowing me to choose a different folder I've tried re downloading Origin but its not working...
