Putting TS4 on USB Drive

I play on Mac and want to put my Sims 4 game on an external USB drive because it's been eating at my storage, but I'm having some trouble. I followed a tutorial that said to place both Origin and the Sims 4 on the drive, and it worked at the beginning, but it would take some time to verify the game every time I wanted to play. The tutorial also said to change the install location settings in Origin, but it either gets stuck on the verification process or the application just doesn't respond every time I attempt to launch Origin. I can still play the game without going through Origin, but I was just wondering if there's a way to bypass the "Verifying 'The Sims 4'..." every time I want to play.

If you unplug the drive between gaming sessions Origin will verify the game to check for corruption every time you plug it back in.

The drive should be SSD or Flash with a USB-C or Thunderbolt connection.
