Re: sims 4 game data missing or damaged MAC

@jeanneley54

Thanks 🙂

  1. In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
  2. Navigate to Contents > Mac OS.

Is there a file in there like this?

If there is, please right click on it and select Move to Bin. Then open Origin, right click on the game in your games library and select Repair.

If there isn't that file please repair the game.

    @Bluebellflora It didn't work. All that happened after was the same error message and the same unix executable file being reinstalled. I'm stumped.

    Yes, after a repair the file is recreated. I'm stumped too because the only way that I am aware of of forcing a Metal compatible Mac to run the LE is by trashing that file and then NOT repairing the game. Something else is causing the game to think you should be running the LE.

    Could you attach the Config.log file from your Sims 4 folder here?

    @Bluebellflora I repaired it again, tried to play, and got a message to download The Sims 4 Legacy Edition. It created The Sims 4 Legacy Edition folder with no config.log file.

    yes it was. I decided to uninstall and reinstall, and the installaition quit halfway through the verification process.

    Okay. I reset Origin, uninstalled, reinstalled, and it quit halfway through verification again. One thing I neglected to mention was right after I bought The Sims, I was able to login to Origin, successfully download, and play for a whole hour. When I tried to play again, I got the dreaded white Origin screen, and I tried all of the troubleshooting steps with no success.

    I  copied my Sims folder to my desktop and deleted the game. Finally after an email from Origin support, I started up in safe mode and was able to login to Origin. I still have the backup, and all I need is an uncorrupted app. I really want to buy DLCs and stuff, but I can't even play the base game. Do you think Origin or someone could just email the app.

    @Bluebellflora Thank you for all of your persistence and efforts to help me. My husband bought me this iMac specifically so I could play The Sims again, so this has been really exasperating for me.

    @jeanneley54  Thanks for the info.  I think you have the most recent version of the Nvidia driver that Apple offers.  Nvidia has a newer driver for your model Mac which might theoretically be compatible.  The problem is, it's indicated for High Sierra, not Catalina, so I'm not sure it would work.  I'd at least wait to install it until getting a second opinion.

    What you could do, for now, is install the new version of Catalina that came out a couple days ago.  It doesn't have a newer driver, but if the problem preventing you from playing is something else about the OS, installing the newest version may repair the error.  You can update Catalina from the App Store, among other places.

    Sorry about the delay in responding. I was in the hospital. Catalina is version 10.56 and my graphics driver is the one that came with my 2003 iMac. I was able  to play sub successfully once. but couldn't connect to and getting a white screen on Origin, After a month of getting advice from Origin without success. I deleted The Sims 4 and Origin to start over, and I finally got the advice to start in safe mode. Now I was able to connect to Origin but could not verify The Sims 4 more than halfway each time, which has nothing to do with the graphics driver, only the download process. Can you help- me please.

    @jeanneley54  I'm sorry to hear you were in the hospital.  When you say Origin can't verify Sims 4, do you mean that it's now installed?  Do you get an error when it stops?  If so, please post a screenshot.
