Re: sims 4 Graphics card unrecognised after macOS Catalina update.

@Jezfuji

  1. Open the GraphicsCards.sgr file using TextEdit (Right click/CTRL and click on the game in your Applications folder, select Show Package Contents then open the Contents folder). The first long list of GPUs will be ATI/AMD then NVIDIA. Scroll down until you get to the Intel section
    vendor "Intel" 0x8086
  2. Scroll down a bit further until you see the following section:
    card 0x1606 "Intel Broadwell HD Graphics M ULT GT1" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1626 "Intel (R) Iris Graphics 6000" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x162B "Intel (R) Iris Graphics 6100" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1622 "Intel (R) Iris Graphics 6200" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1927 "Intel (R) HD 550" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1926 "Intel (R) HD 540" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1912 "Intel (R) HD 530" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x191B "Intel (R) HD 530" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1916 "Intel (R) HD 520" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x191E "Intel (R) HD 515" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1906 "Intel (R) HD 510" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x1902 "Intel (R) HD 510" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x5916 "Intel (R) HD 620" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
    card 0x5926 "Intel (R) HD 640" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
  3. Create a new line below the  one for the 640 and enter the following:
    card 0x3ea6 "Intel (R) Iris Graphics 645" $cardLevelMedium $resolutionMedium
  4. Close the file, saving if prompted or it doesn't autosave.

Now launch the game to the loading screen then quit. Go into the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder and open the Config .log file, scroll to the top and see if your card has now been found. Under the Graphics device info bit it should now correctly identify your card and show [Found: 1, Supported: 1].

    The update on the 23rd may have reset the GraphicsCards.sgr file. Have you checked to see if your edits are still there? Has the Config.log file reverted back to Found:0, Matched:1?

    Thank you for the really useful info  - I have followed your steps and ended up with this:From this I can see that the gpu has been identified but not found?! I haven't done step 3 of your instructions as my gpu is different from the one of the OP and so I don't know what the correct line of text to insert would be.  From what I can see on Activity Monitor, the GPU is not being used to run Sims 4, although it is being used to run Origin...?  If you can help me at all I would be very grateful! Thanks

    @Bluebellflora Hi there I am having the same problem here. Can you help me please?

    I don't really know where to look and I only find tutorials for PC and not Mac users.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @Bluebellflora I seem to be having this issue as well. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 16" with Radeon 5500M graphics and I am getting the "Unrecognized Video Card" error. Is there any way you can help me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    @villanessss

    Sure 🙂

    - Right click on the game in your Applications folder and select Show Package Contents

    - Open the Contents folder in the Finder window that opens then open the GraphicsCards.sgr file with TextEdit

    - The first header is for ATI/AMD cards. Create a line below the header and insert this:

    card 0x7340 "AMD Radeon Pro 5500M" $cardLevelUber $resolutionHigh

    Close the file then launch your game.

    Hi! Thank you for helping us 🙂

    I just regenerated the Sims 4 files in my documents, and the graphics card error message comes up the first time I launch, but then doesn't reappear the second time.

    My graphics card is 'Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB' - instead of the 645 one. Is there a different bit of code I am meant to use instead?
