It doesn't seem to be any pack in particular. I downloaded Late Night only to try it, and it still failed :/
Late night isn't working for me either. Try with a different expansion. It wasn't even showing Ambitions and Late Night in my applications folder, though it showed on Origin and the uninstaller. Let me know how that works out for you! My game is now working fine without those two! Though I still want them in my game...

This is what shows up when I go to install, but I am not sure how to get updates for expansions? I am pretty sure this is causing the problem, but I don't know for sure. Is it possible to update expansions without the game even launching? Pets seems to have worked, anyways. I will try a few others. I guess maybe it is just late night and ambitions.

So my other expansions work except Late Night and Ambitions now. I also noticed that Roaring Heights is not appearing anywhere, and I do own it. So this is weird.
The error message is irrelevant. It is because your game is at a higher patch level than the one it would have been on when the EP/SP was released, just ignore it.
Your problem is extremely common and is because your Mac has unsupported graphics so is technically incompatible with the game, more info here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/CURRENT-ISSUE-The-Sims-3-Issues-playing-on-newer-post-2013-Macs/m-p/4935394#U4935394
As @SydFilmFreak101 has already pointed out, Ambitions and Late Night are pretty much unplayable on newer Macs. ☹️

Well that is a bummer. It's a * off because those expansions were working on the same computer like a week ago. I just had to have my computer reformatted, so it's not even technically new. Argh. I guess that's $40 of game I am now no longer able to play.
Well thanks for the help anyways!
It's bizarre I know. And even more so because you had LN and Ambitions working previously. What version of OS X were you running before you had the new drive installed - El Capitan?
