Does this happen in windowed and full screen? Do you have a link to the threads you're referring to?

My apologies for the late response.
I play in full screen mode. When I select Retina Display, it not only drops my resolution, but it also puts me into Windowed mode, though it doesn't say so on-screen, which is weird. I have to manually select Windowed mode, then apply changes, then select Full Screen again to get it back. Also I noticed today that trying to set the game to Retina Display also changes my computer's Refresh Rate to "ProMotion"; I always have it set to 60 Hertz because I can't play The Sims 2 Super Collection unless it's set to that.
The older thread I refer to is here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mac/M1-Mac-mini-display-resolution-issues-after-closing-game-in/td-p/12495177 . It's marked as "solved" but I don't see "just don't use Retina Display" as a solution lol.
I also have a new "issue", which is that the game is now adjusting itself to display completely below the camera notch thing on the top of my laptop (instead of just acting like it's not there, as it previously did), so now it's only playing in 3024 x 1890. I turned off the setting to do this for the app but it still does, and trying to switch back to 3024 x 1964 just makes things look fuzzier because it's still trying to fit it below the notch. It also sets my entire screen resolution to 3024 x 1890 and pushes it under the notch, but it reverts to normal once I quit the game. So while it's not a huge deal, and the game runs fine, it also relates to resolution, and I have no explanation for it, so I thought I'd mention it. I'm unsure if it has to do with the January 28th update; I feel like I played for a bit immediately after that and it was fine, then just suddenly changed the next time I played, but I can't recall for sure.

Thanks for the info. Have you filed an issue with Aspyr for TS2 as well because you can only play the game in 60 Hz?

Sometimes threads are marked as solved because they inform users of a workaround, which that was, or the OP figured that was a solution that helped them solve their problem. The thread you've linked (thanks!) was only relevant to the M1 Mac mini using a 24" external display, which you are not using I'm guessing because you reference the camera notch on your MacBook Pro? It was only relevant to that particular setup.
Do you have Game Optimisation enabled in full screen mode? Have you disabled it to check whether it makes a difference?
You can change the notch setting in the Info window for the app:

Aspyr knows of the issue; actually they're the ones who came up with the 60 FPS solution, because until then no one could play the game at all.
I already changed the notch settings in the window for the app; it didn't do anything at all, oddly enough.
I do know my laptop switches to Game Mode when I play. I can't find that in my system settings, though, so I'll have to poke around and see if I can try disabling it.
