Your Mac isn't listed in my graphics instructions because it is supported. High Sierra however is not supported. I had El Capitan before and it still didn't work, so I updated to High Sierra hoping it would fix the issue
As you can see from the thread I linked to, no macOS past Mountain Lion is compatible.
