Sims 4 doesn't save, stuck on spinning plumbob of death (2016 Macbook Air)

This happens about 50% of the time I play the Sims. I'll hit the "save" or "save and exit" button in the menu and it has the spinning plumbob that just keeps spinning. I have even left it on for 3 hours and it's still spinning.

I have to save every 30 or so minutes to avoid losing too much progress. Even when I do and it doesn't save it's sad to lose all the progress I make and totally interrupts my game. I can't bring myself to play because of this issue even though I've bought all the DLC.

I've even completely reformatted my computer and reinstalled from Origin and I am still having this issue.

I am on a 2016 Macbook Air (128 gb). Does anyone else on Mac have this problem? It started around November 2020 and then it got resolved somehow and now it happening again.
