Sims 4 Mac crashes with GraphicsRules.sgr file in the ConfigOverride folder
Ever since the January 2025 patch, placing a copy of the GraphicsRules.sgr file in the Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > ConfigOverride folder causes the game to not launch with a specific error message "There was an error processing the startup configuration script":
It doesn't matter if it's a simple, unedited version of the file or an edited version, the game won't launch. This only applies to the GraphicsRules.sgr file. Placing a copy of the Default.ini file and GraphicsCards.sgr file in the ConfigOverride is fine.
Current workarounds:
- edit the GraphicsRules.sgr file directly in The Sims 4.app > Contents > Resources folder which defeats the purpose of the ConfigOverride folder and requires a game repair to set back to the default vanilla setting
- place a copy of the Ts4CommonRules.sgr file from The Sims 4.app > Contents > Resources folder in the ConfigOverride folder (BIG thanks to karoschmitz for discovering this)
- place a copy of the GraphicsRules.sgr file in the ConfigOverride folder, open it and remove the third line at the top of the file include "Ts4CommonRules.sgr" (I have not tested for any adverse reactions in-game when not including this file at launch)
