SIMS 4: no saved files

Current status: No saved games

Last play: May 31st, 2018 / normal exit after saving

Current situation: When I started the SIMS 4, it acted as if I was playing for the first time (all the introductions for the expansion packs popped up)

As I clicked the play button, it automatically moved to Create-A-Sim.

1. No saved games on the SIMS 4

2. No saved files in the EA/SIMS4/Saves folder

3. No saved photos or screenshots either

4. BUT there are saved files from the 31st in the Tray folder

5. All the saved lots are in my library, but the households that I saved are missing and instead have a blank picture and a red X mark (all not shared contents)

6. I have been experiencing a few crashes during May (only the Sims4 crashed, the Origin was fine)

7. Also, there's been some error with the UI; sometimes I had to double-click from the very start, so I just exited the game and loaded new. (5 to 6 occurrences)

8. Play status on the Origin: 1323 hours played, Last play SEP.4.2016 (I bought this Mac in DEC.2016)

FYI, I play on a MacBook, I do use iCloud (also, no saved files)

This happened after the recent update, if my memory is correct

I would really appreciate any help or advice <3

Ignore Origin not updating hours played, it's a bug which is irrelevant to gameplay.

Please navigate to your Sims 4 data folder, click on it once to highlight then hold down CMD and press i to bring up the info window. Please can you provide the full file path of the folder?

Do you have iCloud Drive enabled to store your Documents folder in the cloud?

Which update are you referring to? A macOS update or Sims 4 update?

    Hi there 🙂

My SIMS 4 data folder seems to be linked to the iCloud.

I disconnected it to iCloud and moved it back to my Mac.

Do you have iCloud Drive enabled to store your Documents folder in the cloud? Yes.

Which update are you referring to? A macOS update or Sims 4 update? The Sims 4 update.

I am not using any CCs.

I don't even have a clue how this can even happen?

    It is SO frustrating :/

The game will only look in your Documents folder for the Electronic Arts > Sims 4 folder. iCloud is moving the contents to the cloud so the game can't see it each time it opens. You need to disable it so your Documents folder contents stay on your Mac.

Worked for me! Didn't find the save files I lost yesterday, but rather those from a year ago.
