    When you say excruciatingly slow:

    - is it slow loading?
    - is it lag in-game?
    - what else are you running including background apps
    - how big are your save files?
    - how big is your Mods folder?
    - how much storage space is left on your Mac?
    - Are you switching between the game and other apps regularly?
    - have you tried a new clean Sims 4 folder?

    Thanks for responding.

    1. - is it slow loading?
      Yes
    2. - is it lag in-game?
      Yes
    3. - what else are you running including background apps
Typically just have Google chrome running.
    4. - how big are your save files?
not sure how to view the size, will try to find out
    5. - how big is your Mods folder?
      same as 5
    6. - how much storage space is left on your Mac?
      937GB out of 1TB
    7. - Are you switching between the game and other apps regularly?
      not very often
    8. - have you tried a new clean Sims 4 folder?
      Reinstalled it via Origin

Essentially, as soon as I launch Origin and start Sims 4, it severely bogs down my computer as there is a very noticeable lag in general. In other words, Sims4 is lagging and in addition causing slowness to my computer while it's running.

I reduced the graphics down to 'Low' and that has helped but not a huge difference. Previously the graphics were set to 'Low-Medium'.

Given my specs, is it unreasonable to set the graphics higher than 'Low'?

Plenty of space, that's good but it would still be helpful to know how big your saves files and Mods folder are. Single click on one of the files then hold down the CMD key and press i to bring up the info window.

Google Chrome is a huge resource hog, I refuse to use it on that basis. Try closing it and see what difference it makes, properly quitting it, not just closing the window.
