It's not just the Mods, Saves and Tray folders that are the problem. The localthumbcache file can store corrupted data. Maybe your settings are too high for your Mac, these settings are stored in the Options.ini file. Maybe it's a combination of corrupted Mods AND saves AND a corrupted Lot in your Tray folder. This is why you should start with a clean Sims 4 folder and gradually add your content back, as explained.
I get it is frustrating and tedious but troubleshooting has to be methodical. There is most likely something in your Sims 4 user data causing this issue. Please, start with a new Sims 4 folder again. Forget about all of your previous data for now, pretend like you are loading the game for the first time. Does it load to the main menu? If not, how far into the load process does it get before hanging/crashing once you have pressed Play in Origin?

@Bluebellflora With all of my saves/mods/tray removed it doesn't load anything, I just get stuck with a color wheel 10 seconds after I click play ☹️ I've cleared the cache prior to deleting the old sims 4 file when I was having issues with this a few days ago and it seemed to work but now since its a fresh new file I don't think I have anything in cache to delete, especially since I removed all of my old gameplay. Its now saying I don't have enough hard drive space, so I just bought an external hard drive and hopefully that will help with this :\ I appreciate your patience with this.

Please remove the Sims 4 folder again and then attempt to load the game, not just the Saves, Mods and Tray folders. This is the only way to properly test a clean game.
Restart your Mac. That will clean virtual memory which will be contributing to low internal storage space. - 2 years ago
Hi! I ended up messing around with my iCloud as well as purchasing an external hard drive and so far I've been able to open the game and I was able to put back my mods/trays/save. I did remove the sims 4 file from electronic arts and restarted without it so I could make a new one. Thank you so much for helping out!

Great! In the future, if it happens again, just move that Sims 4 folder out again and follow the same methodical process 🙂
