Sims 4 won't show option to load game after restarting computer

I am playing Sims 4 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1. When I save my game and then restart my computer, the option to load a saved game is no longer present in the usual place. It's as if my computer looses its connection to the saved games. I can see the saved games in my Electronic Arts folder but cannot open them.
