Sims 4 won't start

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
I want to talk about something you don't mention above:
How accessible is the current experience? It's useless to me
Summarize what in the product is difficult to use. I tried to open Orgin and Sims 4 and I first got some strange questions like Allow Orgin to access my document files. Why would I allow Origin to access my document files? I said no. Then went on and tried to play Sims 4 and got this message "Unable to Start, the Sims 4 is already running." then a bunch of numbers starting with ed35e0ea:.....
How is this making it more difficult? I can't play my Sims 4 game
How can we reproduce this experience? Not sure

I tried to open Sims 4 today and got two odd requests that I never saw before. One was allow Orgin to access one set of files and I said yes and then another allow Origin to access my document files. I said no because why does Orgin need to get to my document files? I have never seen these come up before. I then pressed play on the Sims 4 box and Now I can't play Sims because I am getting a message "Unable to Start, the Sims 4 is already running" No it is not. What is the problem

Oh another thing my Mac has just updated its OS System to OS Catalina.

  • @JCPete As @holger1405 notes, with the release of Catalina Apple has mad eit more explicite for applications to access potentially sensitive areas of your file system. Origin must now explicitly be granted access to "the full file system" because it installs programs in the user's local Applications folder (~/Applications/) and The Sims 4 requires access to the Documents folder because it stores the game state inside the Electronic Arts folder within your Documents folder (~/Documents/Electronic Arts/). If you deny either of these requests then the applications will be unable to work correctly.

To grant access after you have already denied it you should go to your System preferences, then to Security & Privacy, then to the Privacy tab. Scroll down the list of options on the left until you get to Full Disk Access and tick the box next to the Origin application. Then scroll down a little further and select Files and Folders. Find The Sims 4 in the list of programs and make sure to tick the box next to "Documents Folder."

    Good luck.
