Toddler ages up to child, then immediately to teen

I just started playing The Sims 4, and in my current game, I encountered a glitch where the parents' first child aged up from a toddler to a child (seemed normal enough), but then immediately after I added attributes for that, the child aged up to a teen and I had to add attributes again.

Sorry, I don't have a save. I exited without saving so I could play the game without a suddenly MUCH older sibling.

The same thing happened yesterday with their second child. He aged from toddler to child, then instantly aged from child to teen. Again, I exited the game without saving, and when the second child aged up from toddler to child again, the glitch did not happen again.
I just started, so this is with a very vanilla setup with nothing beyond the basic game.
