How interesting! Do you not have a Sims 4 folder anywhere, only the Legacy Edition folder? Could you check for another file:
Right click on the game in your Applications folder and select Show Package Contents. Navigate through Contents > MacOS, is there another file in there called Sims 4? Could you screenshot what is in there and post it here?

@Bluebellflora I managed to open the sims package contents, here's what I found.

Can you please go into the MacOS folder and screenshot it, it is below the info.plist.@Bluebellflora I got the screenshot of the MacOS folder, however I am unable to click on the content inside. When I try to, the finder window closes.

Ok. Could you right click on that MacOS folder and click Move to Bin to trash it. Then load up Origin, right click on the game and select Repair. That should download a fresh folder. Now try and load the game.
