10.16.24 Sims 4 Crashing during live mode

Hi Everyone! 

I need some help. When Lovestruck was released I played in offline mode so I would not have to update my mods or game. With the new pack coming out I decided to update the game. I now can not play at all. No issues with loading the game ( with or without mods) but the game keeps crashing. I deleted all my cache files, my sims 3 files, my mods, the whole sims 4 folder, repairing the game, and reinstalling the game. I also tried forcing the game to run in DirectX 11 mode.

The game is still crashing after maybe 5-15 minutes of play time. I saw a few other topics with similar issues, but they seemed to be stuck on the loading screen. I am not getting stuck. The game loads with no issues and i can play the game fine, but the game crashes after a few minutes.

    @Mizu_Yukionna  Your new dxdiag lists some new crashes of the graphics driver and a number of BlueScreens.  Did these happen while you were playing Sims 4?  They'd need to be addressed regardless, but if they're happening in-game, that would explain the problems.

    The particular type of BSOD has to do with a misbehaving driver, but to figure out which driver is the problem, I'd need to see some crash dumps.  So please open a File Explorer window, enter C:\Windows\Minidump in the address bar, and grab the most recent two or three files.  You'll need to right-click and Copy, then right-click your desktop and select Paste.  Zip the files, upload it to a third-party filesharing site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), and link it here.

    @Mizu_Yukionna  Thanks for the dxdiag, which lists a number of generic Sims 4 crashes.  It also lists two serious crashes of the graphics driver and another of the driver software, and some failed Windows updates.  So please start with a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

    Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

    Next, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver, as described here:

    If you get another crash after this, please post a new dxdiag.

    As a side note, you don't need to force Sims 4 to run in DirectX 11 mode.  It will do so automatically based on your graphics card.

    I've completed the first 2 steps. Please see below:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth --> No errors were generated --> [==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.

    sfc /scannow -->

    Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
    For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
    windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
    repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

    All done! The crashes are still happening they are just different now. Instead of crashing and closing the game, the game now freezes and I can not do anything on screen unless I force restart or log out of my PC account. Also, I did get one instance where it froze on the loading screen.

    @Mizu_Yukionna Also further testing I can go to the gallery from the main menu and look, but the game did crash as soon as I loaded the save

    I took this info and did some digging online and reverted one of my drivers -- The crashing has stopped. Thanks for all your help!
