Advice for new PC for Sims 4-ACER Aspire TC-886 PC

I have been playing the Sims 4 on my laptop now for a few years now, but recently it has been very laggy and I have had to disable a few packs before it can even work. I am thinking of buying a new PC, here is the one I had in mind. Will it be OK for playing the game, and if so what monitor would be the best to go with it? Or will any monitor be sufficient? I want something that will display the game very well and I heard that if the monitor isn't good, it doesn't make a difference if the PC itself has a good graphics card. Can you help me out? Thanks 😊😊

  • @Beetolicious2  That computer will run Sims 4, all packs included, on ultra graphics settings, with plenty of room to spare.  In fact, it should run all current and future packs together on ultra, although of course we don't know what those future packs will be like.

You might be able to do better for the price though, either cheaper for the same hardware or stronger hardware for a similar price.  If you're interested, let me know your preferred budget, I can look for other options.  I think most U.K. stores will ship to Ireland, but correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right that the monitor doesn't really matter, other than in determining how pretty the game looks.  The computer will run any program the same internally no matter what the quality of the monitor is.  If you'd like recommendations on monitors though, I'd be happy to look for those too; again, just let me know how much you're willing to spend, and if Amazon U.K. will ship to you.  (It's apparently cheaper to pay in pounds and let your bank or credit card handle the conversion rather than to pay directly in euros, or at least it was the last time I asked someone in Ireland about it.)

@puzzlezaddict Thank you very much for your reply. I must admit that this particular PC is a liiiitle bit out of my budget, unfortunately I'm a bit limited at the moment for choice since some PCs are not available for delivery at the moment due to the current circumstances. I'd like to take you up on your offer, my preferred budget would be anywhere between €500 and €700. I'm a bit hesitant about Amazon u.k to be honest, even before the lockdown they didn't always ship to Ireland, sometimes you'd find a great deal but then you get to checkout and find out they don't deliver to Ireland, which sucks since we're right next to each other. If you find anything on there though I certainly wouldn't mind taking a look. Monitors would also be great, I don't really want to spend too much on one though because I'm mainly concerned about the PC itself. One with good image quality for anything less that €200 would be great.

Thanks very much for your help!😁😁

@Beetolicious2  To be honest, I didn't do a totally thorough search, because after checking a few sites, I found one that delivers to Ireland for £10 extra, at least according to the price in the basket, and has a great option for £630, which google says is currently €703.  You should double-check, but the website itself also confirms delivery to Ireland in a FAQ.

This desktop has the same processor, graphics card, and memory as the Acer you found.  Plus its solid state drive is twice the size of the Acer's, which for practical purposes means you'd have room to install Sims 4 on the SSD and likely keep your user data (saves, saved builds and households, mods and custom content) on that drive as well, instead of having to move everything to the larger, slower mechanical drive.  It also somehow has a three year warranty, which is impressive.

If you want to save a bit of money, this is the same computer, except for a weaker processor.  Personally, I'd spend the extra for the stronger CPU for the sake of futureproofing the system in general, but it shouldn't ever make a difference to Sims 4.

Both of these systems can be customized, but I'm referring to the default configurations.

For monitors, you can get a very good quality image for well under €200.  From the same site, here are three viable options for a 21/22" monitor, from £85 to £95 (€95 to €106):

    https://www.box.co.uk/LG-22MK400H-B-22-Full-HD-IPS-FreeSync-7_2401606.html

    https://www.box.co.uk/Dell-SE2219H-21.5-Full-HD-IPS-Monitor_2419355.html

    https://www.box.co.uk/AOC-22B1HS-21.5-Full-HD-IPS-Monitor_2347140.html

They're all IPS monitors, which is the highest quality category of panel, with the richest colors and the widest viewing angles.  The LG monitor has a slightly higher refresh rate, which makes a difference to some people but not others.  AOC makes panels for mainstream manufacturers, so even though it's not really a known quantity on its own, its products are comparable to other well-known brands.

These monitors are 24" and all have a 75 Hz refresh rate, and they're only a bit more expensive: £105 to £110.

Samsung calls its IPS monitors PLS, but the concept is the same.

I can check other sites as well, but it would be easier if I knew more specifically what you were looking for, so hopefully these options will at least give you a better idea.  The one thing you might not want to pay for is a higher resolution monitor: QHD (2560x1440) panels start at almost £200.  Still, if you want to see some options, I can look for those too.

If you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks very much for your help. I had a look at the websites you suggested and they all look great. I'll continue looking to see if I find anything there or indeed continue browsing for better deals. Thanks for the suggestions, I have a better idea of what I want to get in mind now.👍👍👍
