All CC for Sims 4 wont work in game from the way file was saved?

I download many different custom content items for the Sims 4 but every time I download package. files it always wants me to open them with a weird application like Adobe Acrobat Reader or Internet Explorer for some reason but I saved them in Adobe Acrobat Reader even though they wouldn't open it would always display a message saying something along the lines that the file might be corrupted and the code was not copied correctly preventing it from working, I continued downloading anyways even though It gave me that message. When I put all of the times in the mod folder for the game and opened the game as I suspected the items weren't there. I'm 90% positive it has to do with the way I saved the files but I doesn't give me any other option to save it with besides Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Is there something I need to download a different application to properly save the files? I really want to use custom content in my game and I've tried a few different things to fix it but they didn't work. I'd appreciate help anyone can give.

  • There are several kinds of downloads.

    • zip, rar and 7z: You need to open these with a program like winrar or 7zip and extract the content to your mods folder
    • .package files: You don't need to open these. Just copy those to the mods folder as is
    • ts4script: Also just copy these to the mods folder. For those you can't have more than one subfolder and you need to have script mods enabled in your game options

Also make sure you have mods enabled in your game options.

In addition to what @crinrict has stated, the windows file associations which are what you're referring to have no relevance to the game's ability to load content. Just ensure that you've placed them all under "My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods"

If you're downloading custom content which has been archived such as that from "The Sims Resource" you must open the archives with WinZip and extract them to "My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods"

If you've accidentally associated the file types with Adobe Acrobat Reader or Internet Explorer as you've stated above then you can right click on one of your files, select "Open With" and specify WinZip as the application to always associate with those file types. Do not extract script mods. Any files ending with .py or .pyo must be left within the zip file and ts4script files must be placed directly into your mods folder.

I'm sorry if i'm seeming like an idiot but I'm trying to understand what you mean, I understand now that I needed something like WinRAR to get the package files which I do have now but since downloading from The Sim Resource doesn't work I've moved to other websites for custom content. when I download I'm sometimes able to open the file with winRAR and I'm able to put the custom content in my folder but other times after download the file it will still show up with the message "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged" this message pops up when I download from TSR, adf.ly, Media Fire, etc.

WinRar should be able to open most archives.

What kinds of files did you download, the ones you get the error on ?

Maybe the file didn't download completely ?

Do you have a concrete example ? Don't link anything though, just name site and download so I can find it.

I get the error message from the package files, I don't think the files did download correctly but I couldn't be sure. I didn't add a link but I added some photos of what happens after I try to download an item from TSR. Hopefully you can see them and they could be of help, if not I just tried downloading any type of itm off of TSR, I'll download and item but when I try to open it it shows me the error not it reads exactly

    "C:\Users\nicol_000\Downloads\Nightcrawler AF Hair NAOMI.package

The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

my only option for the message is OK, I became frustrated with the website and stopped trying.

You don't need to open the package file.

Just put that in your mods folder.

Just unzip the archive ones and once you have the package file, copy/paste that in your mods folder.

    The ones with .package ?

Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing ?

The icon usually only means that this file type is associated with a certain program. It has no influence on whether the files work or not.

  • I'm having to same issue, I download cc from tsr all the time. All of a sudden when I download I get an error message stating Adobe can't open corrupt or damage files. This never happened before. Now it's an issue for me. Adobe keeps popping up with that message. Please help

What files are you trying to open ? The Zip/Rar files ?

Sounds like your zip files are associated with an incorrect program then.
