Analyzer not working in the detective career

one of the tasks my sim needs to do to complete her work day is to analyze evidence on the analyzer. Usually, I have no problem doing this, but today I seem to be having problems. When I press the analyzer and press analyze evidence, the evidence I have is greyed out. I have tried deleting the analyzer and putting a new one in and that doesn’t work. I have also tried restarting my game and computer but that did nothing. I would also like to point out that my sim that is having the problems with the analyzer is a teen so that might contribute to the problem but I don’t see how that would.
