Best laptop for sims 4 uk?
Hi, looking to buy a laptop to play sims 4 will possibly use for other things but mainly to play sims my budget is up to £500 ive spent the last week looking at losing my mind trying to understan...
@T0NICHA95 A laptop with a dedicated graphics card, for example the RTX 2050, is going to perform significantly better than the best laptops without one. The 2050 is almost twice as fast as the fastest integrated graphics chips you'd see in the £500 range, which is the difference between medium-high graphics settings and high-ultra. Whether that's worth getting a gaming laptop, or gaming-adjacent, and going over your budget, is your call.
For the rest, please link the product pages so I can take a look myself. The key component in terms of gaming-related performance is the graphics card or chip, and there are many different iGPUs available for a given family of processor. So I'd need to see the exact model to tell you how good or bad of an option a given laptop is.
I will say that if you're going with a system that doesn't have a dedicated graphics card (only the integrated chip), it's best to get 16 GB RAM if you can afford it. This is less critical with a dedicated card because it has its own video memory (VRAM), but the iGPU does not and will borrow from main memory, perhaps up to 2 GB if it can. That means that 8 GB installed RAM can become only 6 GB available, with Windows using 2-3 GB on its own, leaving 3-4 GB for Sims 4 and everything else you might have running, including background apps and bloatware. While I'd personally prefer 16 GB for even a gaming laptop, the presence of VRAM means the system has more room to maneuver.
Feel free to ask more questions in general as well as about the specific models you're considering.
Thank you for your reply,
a couple of the ones I’ve looked at just specify AMD Radeon graphics, is that good enough?
the only reason I’m put off a gaming laptop is because I’m not sure how much I’ll play, don’t want to spend a fortune and then not play much at all
i have linked them here https://www.very.co.uk/1600913672.prd

@T0NICHA95 When you see "AMD Radeon Graphics," that means in integrated graphics chip (that comes with an AMD processor), but it doesn't tell you which graphics chip you're getting. You can only figure that out by looking up the specific processor and seeing what it's paired with. That's why I needed to see the product pages. There's a significant difference in performance between the slowest and chips available even in the current generation, to say nothing of what was released a couple of years ago.
In order, these are the CPUs and iGPUs in the laptops you've linked:
Ryzen 5 7530U, Radeon Vega Graphics 7
Ryzen 5 5500H, N/A (Sims 4 would use RTX 2050)
Ryzen 7 7730U, Radeon Vega Graphics 8
Ryzen 7 5700U, Radeon Vega Graphics 8
The Vega 8 is about as fast an iGPU as you'd find in this price range, capable of running all Sims 4 content together on medium-high graphics settings, maybe high depending on your play style. The RTX 2050 is almost twice as fast in gaming and capable of high-ultra settings, maybe ultra. I can' tell you whether this upgrade is worth the price because it's not my money. I will say that it's a reasonable price for a gaming laptop, although it's certainly not the only option out there.
Among the others, I'd cross off the third option because it only has 8 GB RAM, and I'd say for Sims 4 itself, the fourth is better than the first. The first would be better if you were doing CPU-heavy work on the computer, as the processor is somewhat faster, but for lighter tasks like browsing, it won't make a difference, and Sims 4 will be limited by the iGPU in either case.
If you're willing to spend for a gaming laptop, I'd suggest this one instead:

It's only a bit more expensive than the one you found and has a significantly faster graphics card, plus it's a higher-end laptop in general than the Ideapad. That's not to say the Ideapad is a poor choice, only that the Victus is a (small) tier above it.
For non-gaming laptops, this one is has an iGPU roughly as fast as the Vega 8, and a stronger processor than the 5700U (not that it matters for Sims 4):
And this one is a compromise between gaming and non-gaming laptops, with a dedicated graphics card that's much faster than the iGPUs above but not as fast as the RTX 2050:

It's also not as much over your preferred budget as the gaming laptops. I wouldn't use the touchscreen for Sims 4, but you might appreciate it in other contexts.
Still, the important question here is how much in-game performance matters to you, and to what extent you'd be willing to pay extra for it. Any answer is valid as long as you're comfortable with the result.
Thanks so much, I’ll have a look at the ones you’ve linked. You’ve definitely helped me narrow down my options
I’ve had a look today at a couple of other gaming laptops, just wondering how you think they compare to the gaming laptop you linked?

this one is only 8gb of RAM so I assume that’s one to avoid?

this one is reduced from £999 so I am willing to spend above my budget if it’s a good deal
