    I am hoping I have found a workaround - gifted my butler a vacuum cleaner and now they're vacuuming my sims' house

@BakerStreetBasil The butler should to it. Probably best if you create a bug report in the bug forum

Please before doing so, test without mods/cc if you have any and also try a different house to see if it's a general issue or just that particular house.
