Can I move my Sims 4 and packs onto an external hard drive?

Can I move my Sims 4 and the packs onto an external hard drive and still have it work as normal? How exactly do I do this (e.g. folder names)? It's all taking up a considerable amount of space on my ...

    @kennedie2058  If you're trying to move the game's program files, this is simple and supported by Origin.  Create a folder on the external, called whatever you want.  Open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Move Game, then choose the folder you created.  Origin will do the rest, but it's still a good idea to repair (in the same right-click menu) when it's done.

    If you're looking to move your user data—saves, saved households and lots, mods and custom content, all stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4—you'll need to use a symbolic link to tell the game where to look for the folder.  Here's how:

    In both cases, you may or may not see an impact on performance.  The game itself will run the same once it's loaded, but loading times may be longer if the external drive or its connection is significantly slower than your internal drive.  If you're not happy with loading times, you can reverse one or both moves.
