Cannot chat on the EA App

I cannot chat on the EA app. All I get is hashmarks. If I say, Hello how are you? it's all hashmarks. I am not using curse words or any violent or drug words. All I am doing is saying casual conversations If my ability to chat is gone, what should I do?
