@katinkamom What game version do you see at the Main Menu, in the lower-right corner? The current patch level (at least of this posting) is 1.108.329, so if you see that, you're good. And if the game launches and you can get far enough to load a save, AVG is probably not an issue here.
Please clarify what happens when you try to add a new sim: what step doesn't work and what you see instead. Please test with no mods or custom content at all, at least for now.

What exactly happens is nothing but the plumbob spinning and so it's hanging up at that point. The odd thing is that it was working fine and then not and I didn't download any other mods or anything. Not even clothes. So the only way I got a sim into a game was to create a new game with no mods so the sad little sim is still there, and I do have MCCMD modules so I can change the hair at least, but not add another sim after that. My only solution then, is ti take every NPC and change their appearance and 'kill' the rest. Not exactly the calm zen thing I had before.
Again, I'm on a laptop, running win11 my antivirus is not interferring with anything and I use CurseForge (yuck) and The Sims Resource and since, at least I support the modders, Patreon.
So there was an update this morning but it did not help.

To make matters worse, went into regular game I created with new vampire sim, this happened when I realized I was missing MCCommand modules. If I delete the game and start over, will I be able to recover the hundreds of dollars I spent on the game packs back? I don't know what else to do. Seriously, I don't.

@katinkamom Your EA account owns your Sims 4 content, not your computer. So if you were to uninstall the game, everything you'd bought would be available to download again, for free. I can't speak to the modders' policies though.
As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder. Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.) Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and let me know what problems are currently present.
I understand you don't want to play long-term with no mods or cc, but given that you're seeing multiple issues, it's important to disentangle the influence of mods from any bugs or issues with the game itself. The clean folder does exactly that.
