Hey there @pizzaperson1000,
When you make the purchase in-game like this, it will prompt you to load up the Origin game client and buy the expansion there- that's what your game is currently trying to load. If you've bought your game through Steam though, you'll want to purchase Island Living directly through the Steam store, not the in-game store so the purchase does not go through Origin.
Try buying Island Living directly through Steam instead, let me know if you have any issues there.

Is this a new thing? last expansion I could download right through the game zero problems that's why I'm hesitant to make any purchases because I'm worried there is an underlying issue. my game just updated btw if that might be causing it
i've downloaded 8 different pack in total right through the game which is why I find this change so alarming. if this is something new with the update I wish I could've had a heads up

What you're seeing is called the Origin In-Game Overlay. You can disable this in the Origin client so it won't continue to pop up by going to Origin-> Application Settings-> Origin In-Game Tab and uncheck that box.

despite disabling it and restarting sims 4 it's still there which is only discouraging my to make any purchases even more I don't understand why this is happening out of nowhere and I'm probably overreacting but this is the first expansion i'm purchasing with my own money and not my parents and I want everything to go smoothly. It's just very strange that it's suddenly blocking me from making purchases ingame
edit: I checked it in the games settings and now it's gone nut I get this
