since you seem to have been able to redeem the game ok, I moved this to your own post.
Did you check if your Antivirus/Firewall might be blocking the connection ?

1. Rename The Sims4 folder to "The Sims4 old"
Step 2. Fix the game in Origin
Origin/Library - right click on TS4 - option "Repair game"
You have to wait until Origin will fix all packs, not only the base game.
Step 3. Turn on the game - a new game folder will be created and you will have two - one old, one new
Step 4. Check if you still have this problem in the newly created game folder
If the problem disappeared and you can connect to Gallery:
Step 5. Delete in the new game folder following folders:
"saves" and Tray.
Step 6. Go to "The Sims 4 old" folder and copy - your "saves " folder.
Step. 7, Paste this folder in a newly created game folder.
Step 8. Do the same with Tray folder and TrayDeleteItems file
9. By the way, you can check if your mods - if you have any - are up to date. If you don't have any mods - skip this step
Copy and paste your mods and CC from old mods folder to the new one. First copy the scripts mods every time checking if these mods are up to date
Step. 10. If all is OK - delete The Sims4 old folder. Now you will have only one game folder working properly.
I don't work for EA Thanks for the reply 🙂
done it before and did it again
but still when I try to Connect the loading sign spins once and the game freezes for 20 seconds and then the "Could not connect" window pops up

Hmm... It should work.
Find options on the computer "clean disc" that should be in the Windows tools. (I have Win 7 so I don't know where to look for it in Win10) . Clean all temporary files.
Clean your Origin cache also
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
If it also will not work uninstall Origin manually and install again
http://origin.com/download
It doesn't affect your account. Heiyaaa°°
I still have that same issues, it started during my game - all of a sudden I couldn't connect. Checked if it was mods, it isn't, reconfigured my IP with the commands in Windows 10, I'm directly connected to Ethernet and it has no issues. I really don't know what's going on...

The gallery had maintenance yesterday
Could you all try again today ?
Okay, I did all the things you suggested above but the problem is still there 😞
like nothing changed, same freezing and same error ☹️- kreatora6 years agoHero (Retired)@wild_bloody_rose
The only thing that we didn't try was to reinstall the game itself. Unfortunately, It is time-consuming work. This will not eliminate your saves or library, but in order to be on the safe side, move the whole folder of the game to the desktop.
After switching on the game when a new folder has been created, you will copy the Tray and "saves" folders into it - nothing more. To do the same with mods folder will come time after checking if you can connect to the Gallery.
The other thing is if you have two running antivirus programs - Windows Defender which you got with the Win10 system and some other one.
Windows Defender can nicely block some Origin files.
If even this way does not help, the only cause can be some other program running in the background connected to the Internet, which interferes with your connection to the Gallery.
